Classroom Showcase

Thank you to all those parents who came to our classroom showcase on Tuesday afternoon.  I know the students were very excited to show you what they have been doing this term.

The showcase was really a culmination of something the teachers have been working on this year.  As a team we have been trying to improve our practice and make learning more meaningful by integrating curriculum areas.  Our focus this term was to improve Vocabulary and increase student background knowledge, by linking their literacy teaching to another curriculum area.

I was particularly impressed with the student interest and engagement that was generated as a result.  Teachers firstly posed interesting inquiry questions to stimulate students interest and curiosity around a topic. Students then came up with some amazing questions of their own, which hopefully they were able to find the answers to.

We will be continuing down this path next year and teachers will be using some of their planning time and staff meetings to refine their teaching practices.  We are all very excited to see how this will impact on outcomes for our students.

Good Bye 2020 Banquet

We were so fortunate to have such a lovely evening for our final social event for the year.  Our new grassed area is just perfect for such events.  As usual, we were inundated with some fabulous food treats to share.  Thankyou for that.

Thanks must also go to Mr and Mrs Kalajzic for making the area look so welcoming, and to our fabulous P&C for organising all the  great raffle prizes.

Totem Poles

AMAZING is one word that describes the 11 wooden totems that have been painted to represent the Coolangah Kaartdijin groups. These totems are now part of our beautiful nature playspace and gardens.

Each totem is based on student work. A large scale version of a drawing by one of our senior students is painted across the back of all 11 totems, uniting them all representing our connected community.

Special thank you to the following people who worked hard and recruited volunteers to make this project happen:

Mr & Mrs Kalajzic, Kelly Muller, Nigel Luck and Mrs Thompson and her family.

Staff for 2021

Well thankfully there won’t be too many changes for next year.  Mr Batten has picked up a position at Harmony Primary School and will be replaced by Mr Geoff Smith who has come from Atwell Primary.  We wish Mr Batten all the best and thank him for all his hard work this year.  I’m sure he will be sadly missed by his students.  Mr Smith is a very experienced teacher and according to Ms Dagostino, who has worked with him before, the kids will love him.

The only other major change is that Felicity Halliday, from Pre-primary, will be moving to Lockridge Primary.  We have really benefitted from the wealth of knowledge and experience Felicity has brought to our school this year.  Lockridge is very lucky to have her and we wish her all the best.

There may be a few other minor changes but I will let you know more as things progress.

Lost Property

With the end of the school year fast approaching we ask that parents & guardians please ask their children to check lost property, as we have quite a collection of uniforms, water bottles and containers.

Lost property can be located on the verandah between the staffroom and Room 4 (Mrs Dagostino’s classroom).

Unclaimed items with no name will be donated to a local charity, or to the school’s second hand uniform store at the end of the term.

Second Hand Uniform Shop

Our second hand uniform shops is looking a little empty and we would appreciate any uniform donations. All donations are welcome and can be dropped into the office.

From your P&C

Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Raffle at our end of year celebration – there were some very happy prize winners thanks to many amazing donations. It was lovely to spend the evening under lights on our new grass, amongst our gardens.

Even though 2020 has been an unusual year, it has been a very successful one. The effort, involvement and care that comes from our school community is always amazing and appreciated.

2021 presents many opportunities to keep building on the great work that has been completed to date. We look forward to sharing these with you are working together to make the Curtin Primary experience even better.
