NAPLAN

Students in years 3 and 5 have completed week 1 of NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN will continue next week as per the table below.

NAPLAN tests skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. With the test results, teachers can tailor each child’s education more effectively.

NAPLAN is made up of tests in the four areas of:

  • reading
  • writing
  • language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
  • numeracy

The best way to support your child is to encourage them to do the best they can do.

Please find below the schedule for testing dates over the next two weeks. We would appreciate if students are not late on these dates unless unwell.

Any queries, please contact Mr Van Der Meulen, Mrs Thompson or Mrs Kalajzic.

Pre-Primary WA Wildlife Incursion

On Wednesday the 12th of May, the Pre-Primary’s got a visit from WA Wildlife. In term 2 the Pre-Primary’s have been learning about Australian animals and the Aboriginal culture.  WA Wildlife brought along Billy the Bobtail, Nick the Tawny Frog Mouth, Roopert and Rooby the kangaroos and Argyle the Woma python!

We learnt that Billy the bobtail is apart of the blue tongue lizard family. She is 8 years old and likes to eat snails and flowers from your garden so keep an eye out for Billy. Nick the Tawny Frog Mouth is a nocturnal bird that keeps safe by camouflaging in with the bark on trees. Roopert and Rooby the kangaroos are living together to keep each other company and remind each other that they are kangaroos. Life after WA Wildlife they will go to kangaroo kindy! Argle the Woma Python is over 10 years old! Argle has over 1000 bones and smells with his tongue.

If we see any of these animals out in the bush we need to put our hands behind our backs and walk away carefully.

National Simultaneous Storytime

Next Wednesday students will participate in National Simultaneous Storytime, the theme this year is ‘Give me some Space’.

Help shape our Youth Plan!

The City of South Perth is developing its first ever Youth Plan and we’d like to find out more about what matters most to the young people in our community.

The Youth Plan will help us deliver events, programs and services for our younger community members and ensure that the youth perspective is part of our future planning.

We’d like to hear from young people aged 10-25 years who live, work, study, play sport or visit the City of South Perth, as well as from their parents and guardians/caregivers.

Please share your thoughts, ideas and expectations so that the Youth Plan truly reflects what you want for future events, programs and services in the City.

Parents and guardians/caregivers survey

It is important to us that we hear from the parents, guardians and caregivers of young people. We want to know your thoughts, ideas and expectations so that the Youth Plan truly reflects what you want for future events, programs and services in the City of South Perth.

We have worked with a group of local young people to develop this short survey. Take Survey

Your personal details, such as age group and suburb, are only used by the City to interpret the feedback we receive.

For transparency, your feedback may be published as part of reporting, however, we respect your privacy and all identifying information will be removed and your feedback kept anonymous.

View our Youth Support Services list for details of organisations that help young people in many different ways.

Complete the survey and you could win a $100 prepaid Visa card (terms and conditions apply). Hard copy surveys are available at the City’s Civic Centre and South Perth and Manning libraries.

Feedback closes 4pm, Monday 17 May 2021.

Local Sporting Clubs

A number of our local sporting clubs are taking registrations now for the upcoming season. They provide a great opportunity for children and parents to be involved in the local community whilst having a lot of fun. You can find more information by following this link http://www.curtinps.wa.edu.au/community-noticeboard/ to our Community Noticeboard.

Mother’s Day Floral Arrangements

There were smiles all round on the weekend when more than 150 beautiful Mother’s Day floral arrangements went out into our community. It was lovely to receive so much positive feedback from people who were genuinely impressed with the quality of the flowers.

A massive thank you to everyone who was involved in making this event a success. Many members of our school community delivered flyers, spread the word amongst friends and colleagues, stripped leaves from stems, arranged flowers, wrapped bunches, transported flowers and ran the flower collection morning (as well as completing a multitude of other tasks required to make it all happen.) We appreciate the time, effort and support everyone gives.

Not only did we have success by positively engaging with our wider community, we raised almost $2900 from flower sales and associated donations.

School Noticeboard

Our School Noticeboard has been created on our website. Please follow the below link to find information on upcoming school events and also flyers and links to programs in our wider community.
