Coolangahs Kaartdijin
Thank you to all those parents who attended the Coolangahs Kaartdijin presentation yesterday. The students were so excited to have such a great audience. The presentation was a culmination of all they have been learning when they get together in their multi-age groups each Thursday. Thanks must go to Mrs Kalajzic and Mrs Thompson for developing such an amazing teaching program which keeps all our students engaged and interested. It will be wonderful if the lessons learned stay with our children throughout their lives, and passed on to younger generations, as our First Nations People also did.
It was lovely to also have parents and friends socialising afterwards. I hope that by next year we will be back to normal, and parents feel comfortable and safe enough to be in the school more. Thanks to those parents who brought along afternoon tea, and for Mel Jasper and others for coordinating things.
School Volunteers
We have a wonderful group of regular volunteers who help out with fundraising and social events around the school. Last night several were honoured at the City of South Perth Community Volunteer Awards. Congratulations to our local volunteers who were nominated; Kelly Muller, Rebecca Brockman, Jasmyn Fitzgerald, Danelle Marshall and Greg Kalajzic. You have all done so much for us this year, and we all are extremely appreciative. I wonder who we will have nominated next year.
Parent Survey
Please keep an eye out for a survey link that I will send you next week. The survey is part of a Commonwealth commitment to find out what parents think about their school. Not all the questions are appropriate for our school, and others will need some thinking, but I hope you will take the time to complete it to the best of your ability. If it is too difficult for you to do online, we will have paper copies in the front office.
Buddy Seat
We very nicely surprised this week to be presented with a “Buddy Bench” from the Manning Men’s Shed. The beautifully made bench will go into the nature playground. The purpose of the Buddy Bench is that when a child is feeling lost or lonely they can sit on the bench, which will indicate that they need a friend to talk to or play with. Knowing how wonderful the children are at Curtin, I’m sure there will be many willing to take such child under their wing and make them feel better.
Two Como Rotary Club members also came along to the presentation and we discussed a whole range of ideas of how both these groups of volunteers can become more involved in the school next year.

Kaya!
The 2019/20 Australian bushfires saw widespread devastation with the loss of many species of native animals and their habitats. This event has influenced our Coolangahs Kaartdijin sessions over the past 2 years building our understanding of the importance of caring and connecting to country.
Preserving and protecting our unique fauna should be important to all of us.
Yesterday we welcomed many parents, grandparents and families to our Coolangahs Showcase performance.
Throughout the term our students from Years 1-6 have been busy creating and adapting stories from the Dreamtime and Australian poems within their Coolangahs groups.
Together they wrote scripts and took on the roles of actors, directors and performers.
With a little help from all our wonderful staff and the amazing Mrs Cook, they proudly presented their items.
Congratulations everyone – “You are all Simply the Best”
Mrs Kalajzic & Mrs Thompson
