May the fourth be with you – camp fundraiser

We really enjoyed seeing our students and teachers get into the spirit of the day with some great costumes and general excitement on show. Thank you to everyone who participated, we raised $120 on the day for the year 5/6 camp.

Election day – parent volunteers needed

Curtin Primary is again a polling booth for the federal election on Saturday May 21. The P&C and year 5/6 class will be working together to bring the following to voters on the day –

  • Cake stall
  • Bacon and egg rolls
  • Sausage sizzle

Our senior students will be running the cake stall to raise funds for their camp later this year, whilst the P&C will be firing up the BBQ.

The P&C need parent volunteers to help on the day with setting up, serving customers, cooking on the BBQ and packing up from 7:30am to 2pm. If you can help out for an hour or two please send an email to Mel – secretary@curtinprimarypandc.com.au – we’d love to get at least two parents from every class in the school. All funds raised from the BBQ go back into school projects and resources to benefit all of our children.

Parent workshop – Loose parts play – Thursday May 19

Play – who doesn’t love it? We are offering you the chance to get involved, have some fun and learn about the approach we are taking to provide more opportunities for your children.

Curtin Primary has engaged Jonny Neen of “Pause Rewind Play” to mentor staff and assist with the implementation of positive loose parts play at school. Students and staff have already enjoyed participating in workshops delivered by Jonny and now it is your turn.

Thursday May 19 – 2:45pm to 4pm – children of attendees will be supervised.

Please register your attendance by emailing your name to curtinps@education.wa.edu.au with “Thinking about play” in the subject line.

NAPLAN

Students in years 3 and 5 are currently completing NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN will continue next week.

NAPLAN tests skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. With the test results, teachers can tailor each child’s education more effectively.

NAPLAN is made up of tests in the four areas of:

  • reading
  • writing
  • language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
  • numeracy

The best way to support your child is to encourage them to do the best they can do over the next two weeks. We would appreciate it if students are not late on these dates unless unwell.

Any queries, please contact Mr Van Der Meulen.

Sustainability

The challenge is on as to which class can do the best job at diverting waste from landfill. Be sure to bring in your recyclables listed below to contribute to our sustainability efforts and help your child’s class win the shield of responsibility.

Our sustainability leaders would like to remind families that our classes are collecting the following items. Also please follow the link to read about single use plastics. https://www.wasteauthority.wa.gov.au/images/resources/wws/Files/2019/10/WWS_Fact_Sheet_-_Single-use_Plastic.pdf   Batteries   –   Bread Clips   –   Plastic Lids   –   Toothbrushes – Toothpaste Tubes  – Old Pens
