Interschool soccer carnival

Last Friday our students represented Curtin Primary at the interschool soccer carnival held at Manning Primary. This event saw many enjoying their first experience at an interschool carnival. Our students had a number of weeks of soccer training with Alister from Football West in the lead up to the carnival and performed very well on the day. We are especially proud of the way our students carried themselves resulting in them receiving compliments on their sportsmanship and behaviour.

Final results:

Girls placed 5th

Boys placed 4th

Congratulations Curtin teams who were presented with the Meritorious Shield.

On the track – fitness and running

Following on from the success of our students at their recent interschool adventure, we are looking to set up an “On Track Tuesday”. Students who are keen to improve their fitness levels and running endurance will have the opportunity to participate, so get behind your children and encourage them to get involved.

Mr Henderson (WAFL -WCE Eagles player) is keen to assist our students in this area and will be commencing “On the Track” Tuesday 14th, 21st & 28th June 8.20 – 8.50am. Those students wishing to participate must come wearing joggers, bring a water bottle and be prepared to run!

Indonesian puppet show

Curtin Primary is pleased to welcome Carrousel Theatre Company who will be performing an Indonesian Puppet Show “CERITA DARI HUTAN” for the Pre-primary to year 6 students. The performance will take place on Tuesday 14 June at 2pm in the undercover area and costs $8 per student.

Please make payment of $8 per student to the class teacher or via EFT.

Election day

It was a beautiful morning under the trees at Curtin Primary on election day. Our local community came out in force and generously supported our democracy BBQ and cake stall – a combined effort between the P&C and year 5/6 class. A number of our students assisted on the day with set up, customer service and general marketing duties. We hear that their sales pitches made waiting in line to vote a much more enjoyable experience.

It was also really lovely to hear all of the positive comments about our gardens and natureplay. Over the last several years significant work has been put into creating these spaces and they really are something for our school to be proud of.

Funds raised will be used to contribute to projects in the school grounds and year 5/6 camp. Thank you to our P&C and all of our volunteers and bakers who made the day a success – without you these days simply do not happen.

Enrolments for 2023 are now open

Children born between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019 can apply to attend Kindy in 2023 – please let your friends, family and neighbours know to get their forms in early. Application forms are available from the front office

St Johns First Aid

Next Tuesday (June 7) our students from PP to year 6 will be participating in a free First Aid incursion which will train and equip students with the skills to assess and respond to first aid situations, while developing strategies to seek help for themselves or others.

Talking About Money

This week our year 5/6 class completed the second part of the “Talking about Money” workshops provided free by the Talk Money Ecstra Foundation. Through a series of activities, students examined how people value money differently, how to set savings goals and manage money.

Sustainability

The challenge is on as to which class can do the best job at diverting waste from landfill. Be sure to bring in your recyclables listed below to contribute to our sustainability efforts and help your child’s class win the shield of responsibility.

Our sustainability leaders would like to remind families that our classes are collecting the following items. Also please follow the link to read about single use plastics. https://www.wasteauthority.wa.gov.au/images/resources/wws/Files/2019/10/WWS_Fact_Sheet_-_Single-use_Plastic.pdf   Batteries   –   Bread Clips   –   Plastic Lids   –   Toothbrushes – Toothpaste Tubes  – Old Pens
